Community Outreach | The Glamour Squad

This week, Wigs.com donated a dozen wigs for a The Glamour Squad event that we attended. This event took place at a local children’s hospital – Medical City of Dallas, Texas - in which young patients from the hospital received makeovers and had a day all about them.

The Glamour Squad organization was started in part by Jenna Owens (above photo, far left). Jenna is best known as a radio personality on KISS FM’s Kidd Kraddick in the Morning. The young girls who attended the event are bravely living with and enduring cancer and other illnesses. For many of them, day-to-day life can be stressful, painful and certainly not fun. The Glamour Squad was a chance for these beautiful girls to be pampered, feel pretty & escape for some much-needed and well-deserved fun.

This day of pampering included facials, makeup, and manicures. The girls even got their hair done by professional hairstylists, or they received a brand new wig from Wigs.com. Of course there were portraits taken and gift baskets too.

Wigs.com’s CEO and owner, Carliz Sotelo Teague attended the event and remembers the words of one lovely girl on her spa day - “This is the best day I’ve ever had!” Also to attend was Wigs.com associate Brian Rutledge. “Some people might take the little things for granted,” Rutledge said. “But not these kids. It was clear that this day meant a lot to these girls, and I came away with a new respect for the everyday stuff.”

Our hearts were certainly full after meeting the inspiring young ladies on the day made just for them with The Glamour Squad. Stay tuned for more Community Outreach and philanthropic efforts from Wigs.com – The Wig Experts.

Expert Tip | Dial Down the Shine

Although synthetic wigs are super easy to wear, the fiber can sometimes have an unnatural shine. “What?” you ask, “I thought shine was a good thing.” It is, but you want the shine of your synthetic wigs, hairpieces and extensions to match the shine of naturally-growing human hair.

To reduce that fake shine, Jon Renau designed the Wig Wand. Simply tap the wand on your wig (or hairpiece or extensions) to distribute a small amount of wig powder. Or you can also sprinkle a little hair powder on your wig and brush through. And Presto! These methods will help give the piece a more natural appearance.

Love It or Hate It? | The Rooted Look

Nobody has the schedule for frequent touch-ups at the salon - not even celebrities and movie stars. These days... it's a trend! Celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams and Madonna (to name just a few) all dare to show their roots...

Sarah Jessica Parker

Camila Alves

Jessica Simpson

Rachel McAdams

Madonna

Rachel Bilson

Reese Witherspoon

Our own hair grows darker and lightens with the sun towards the ends. So some say the rooted look is more natural.
What do you think?

Many of the wig styles available on Wigs.com are available in 'rooted' colors for the same effect. It's true - now wigs are being made with a root slightly darker than the rest of the hair for a more natural and believable look. Wig manufacturers like Raquel Welch, Jon Renau, Noriko, Revlon, and Rene of Paris are all looking out for us!
